Niagara District Airport recognizes Canadian Airports Safety Week

Media Release

SEPTEMBER 15, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON – Niagara District Airport (YCM) is joining airports across the country in celebrating Canadian Airports Safety Week (CASW) from September 15 to 19.

CASW is a national, employee-focused event that aims to reach thousands of airport employees with various safety talks/presentations, safety messaging, and events.

“Canadian Airports Safety Week is an opportunity to reflect on our commitment to safe and reliable operations, review our safety policies, and thank our employees for their critical contributions in maintaining a safe work environment,” said Alick Feller, manager airside/groundside services. “Safety is top of mind with everything we do – and our employees are at the forefront of that every day.”Niagara residents will easily connect to popular destinations across Canada such as Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Halifax, as well as major cities across the United States, Europe, Asia, and beyond. Residents will book the service like any other connecting flight by searching Niagara (YCM) to their end destination on aircanada.com, allowing the motorcoach segment to be included seamlessly in their Air Canada itinerary.

"This new service represents a major step forward in improving air travel access for Niagara residents and visitors to the Niagara region," says Greg Wight, chair, Niagara District Airport Commission. "By partnering with Air Canada and Landline, we are welcoming direct, easy, and convenient travel experiences – with significantly less associated costs and stress – to benefit the half-a-million residents who call Niagara home, and the 13 million tourists who visit Niagara each year."

NDA is starting off the week with a CASW coffee kickoff session – involving a safety quiz, knowledge seminar, and prizes. Educational training sessions are planned throughout the week, with a foreign object debris walk – also known as a “FOD Walk” – scheduled to cap off the week on Friday. This walk will see airport staff collecting foreign objects and debris from the airfield, helping to maintain a safe and efficient airport environment.

When Bill Greenhalgh, airport maintenance specialist was asked what CASW meant to him, he simply said, “Well, every week is airport safety week!”
