Located in the heart of the Niagara Region, the Niagara District Airport is situated between Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and St Catharines, providing a link to world-renowned theatres, festivals, wineries, restaurants, golf courses, and casinos. We have a 5,000 foot runway, NAV Canada on-site, in addition to Customs clearance capacity, Avgas and jet refueling available. We are host to a wide variety of aviation activities including flight training, general aviation, tourism, private charter, military, and rotary wing operations.

We are currently seeking a safety- and team-oriented individual to join the team as Airport Maintenance Specialist. Reporting to the Manager of Airside Groundside Services, the Airport Maintenance Specialist supports the safe and efficient operation of Niagara District Airport. This position is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, commencing immediately. It includes a full benefits package and inclusion in the OMERS pension plan. Annual salary will commence at $45,760 with overtime opportunities provided.

Your day might start with inspecting the runway, followed by vehicle training, then end with repairing a taxiway light or windsock. The next might have you dispersing wildlife, cutting grass, then supporting a special event on the main apron. You will be responsible for maintaining airport facilities, clearing snow in the winter, and cutting grass in the summer.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect runways, taxiways, aprons, lighting, and airport facilities.
  • Conduct wildlife inspections and disburse wildlife as required.
  • Perform seasonal groundskeeping and landscaping.
  • Participate in snow clearing operations.
  • Inform and enforce airport policies and procedures.
  • Inspect, clean, secure and maintain airport buildings and facilities.
  • Operate plows, trucks, tractors, loaders, mowers, trimmers, and chainsaws.
  • Support construction projects, special events, and aircraft arrivals.
  • Provide vehicle or pedestrian escorts airside as required.
  • Participate and contribute to airport training programs.
  • Perform minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Contribute to the Airport Safety Management System by identifying potential hazards, participating in safety investigations, and assisting in the development of working practices.
  • Supervise and assist contractors on site, as required.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ontario Grade 12 secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid class DZ driver’s licence preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate, inspect, maintain, and fuel heavy airport vehicles.
  • Knowledge and ability to inspect, repair and maintain a wide variety of airport electrical and mechanical facilities.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to qualify for a restricted aeronautical radio-telephone operator’s license, which must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Initiative and decision-making skills to work effectively for long periods without close supervision.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new working practices; prior airport experience considered an asset.
