Filming at the Airport
Filming & Drone Operations
Niagara District Airport is an active, working airport with ongoing aviation operations.
To ensure safety and coordination, all filming, photography, and drone activity is reviewed in advance. Requirements vary based on location, equipment, duration, and proximity to airside operations.
This process helps protect airport users, tenants, and crews while allowing creative and commercial projects to take place responsibly.
Drone use near an active airport is strictly regulated. Unauthorized drone activity may result in enforcement action.
Operating a drone on Airport property or within three nautical miles of the airport requires authorization and must comply with all applicable Transport Canada regulations, Airport requirements, and, where applicable, coordination with NAV CANADA through the NAV Drone platform.
Depending on the location and nature of the operation, drone pilots may be required to obtain airspace authorization and provide proof of approval before filming or flying.
What Requires Approval
Approval may be required for:
- Commercial photography or videography
- Film, television, or digital media production
- Use of professional filming equipment on Airport property
- Drone operations on Airport property or within three nautical miles of the airport
- Any activity that could affect airport operations or safety
Casual personal photography in public areas may not require approval, but advance confirmation is recommended.
How Requests Are Evaluated
All requests are reviewed to ensure:
- Aviation safety and operational continuity
- Compliance with federal regulations
- Minimal disruption to airport users and tenants
- Appropriate insurance and risk considerations
Approval timelines may vary depending on the scope and complexity of the request.
